Do you know what the largest organ in the human body is? It is neither the head, nor the heart, nor even the femur. It is, of course, the skin, that outer covering which, on average, covers an area of about two square metres, weighs about 4 kg, and has the important function of protecting our body from external threats.

But just as our skin protects us, we also have a duty to protect it. An even greater duty, if possible, for those who, for pleasure or for work, have to maintain a good physical presence.

One of the most abundant proteins in our skin and in other parts of our body (bones, teeth, muscles, etc.) is collagen, which accounts for between 30 and 35% of the proteins found in our body.

It comes from the Greek word kólla, which means “glue”, as collagen is the protein that gives our skin its elasticity and allows it to stretch without damage. Thanks to it, our joints are flexible and our tendons resistant to stress. It is, in short, the key protein for maintaining a youthful appearance and smooth skin.

Natural collagen production gradually declines with age. It is estimated that by the age of 25, production is decreasing by 1 to 1.5% each year. It is therefore possible that collagen reserves have decreased by around 30% by the age of 40, 45% by the age of 50, 60% by the age of 60, and 75% by the age of 70. And it could be accelerated even further by factors such as photoaging, pollution and smoking.

Two options help to keep our skin firm, elastic and healthy. The first is diet: eating foods rich in collagen, such as avocados, red fruits, kiwi, eggs or salmon. The second option is through food supplements containing collagen. Marine collagen is more commonly used for aesthetic purposes.

Nutralie’s Marine Collagen Complex contains hyaluronic acid, Q10, vitamins C, E, B12 and lycopene. Its beneficial effects are numerous and not only on the skin: also on hair and nails, joints and bones, and the entire immune system in general. We explain why.

For the skin, but also for hair and nails

The vitamin C contained in Marine Collagen Complex contributes to the formation of collagen for normal skin function. In addition, zinc, which is also present in the formula, contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails. Combined with vitamin C, it contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative damage thanks to the synergies of collagen with lycopene, hyaluronic acid and Q10.

For joints, bones and cartilage

Another beneficial effect of vitamin C is that it contributes to normal collagen formation in the normal functioning of joints, bones and cartilage. For example, in the case of joint pain, vitamin C helps to relieve pain. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and can prevent bone loss.

In addition, vitamin C also contributes to the normal formation of collagen in the normal functioning of blood vessels, teeth, and gums.

For the entire immune system

Moreover, the presence of vitamin B12 adds value, because it contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, and also to the normal formation of red blood cells. Both effects are endorsed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The recommended daily dose is 1 or 2 capsules per day, which can be taken with a simple glass of water. It is usually taken 1 or 2 capsules at breakfast or at meals that best suit each person’s personal routine. Marine Collagen Complex can be taken at the same time as any other Nutralie food supplement, as long as the recommended daily dose is respected.
